SGA treasurer, Career Club president, and a Beta member, junior Brianna Rodgers is a high academic achiever with a 3.8 unweighted and a 4.6 weighted GPA. She’s intelligent, kind, and dedicated and stands out from other students.

 Student Life

Being a graduate of Ponce De Leon Middle School, Brianna was determined to come to MHS. “I wanted something different than what everyone else was doing at Ponce. They were going straight to Gables, and I felt that Miami High was a better fit for me and my personality,” she said.

She has taken 3 AP classes so far, and she is currently taking AP English and AP U.S. History, which is her hardest class. “There’s a lot of outside reading and notes, and if you don’t do them, you’ll be lost. Other than that, it’s a very interactive class,” she said.

From all the classes she has taken so far, her favorites have been English II with Ms. Berrios, AP Chemistry with Dr. Hueck, and AP U.S. History with Ms. Garcia.

So far, her favorite year at the High has been junior year. “Sure, it’s been stressful, but I’ve met so many great people, my classes are amazing, and I get to have my class ring,” she says.

Being a junior has started to make Brianna wonder which university or college she wants to attend. “My dream school is Boston University. I’ve visited it a bunch of times, and each time I fall more in love with the city. I really want to go to college further north, but I am a Seminoles fan at heart,” she said.

Unlike most students from Miami High, Brianna’s older sister, Ms. Ashley Rodgers, teaches 9th grade English, here. “I like the fact that my sister is a teacher here now because I can see her more often, and I don’t have to take the school bus anymore,” she said.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Brianna saw an opportunity to start a new club and had the help of U.S. History teacher Ms. Garcia and Mr. Jara, who teaches physical science. They started Career Club because they want to make sure that every Sting has a plan after high school.

She is also SGA’s current treasurer, and she couldn’t be any happier with this decision. “I like being SGA treasurer because it has given me the chance to have a second family,” she said. “All of us are extremely close. We joke around and like to have fun.”

She is a Beta member and decided to join because as a freshman, she was in Beta sponsor Dr. Hueck’s chemistry class and, as she says, “It was constantly in my face. The homecoming show was amazing and the members made me want to join as well.”

Life Outside of School

In her free time, Brianna likes to watch some of her favorite movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and V for Vendetta and likes to read books such as Animal Farm. She likes to hang out with her friends and family and loves to travel; Boston and Dallas are favorites.

Her favorite activity is to play cards. “I used to do it all the time with my grandfather, and I still do it with my family because it’s so fun to sit around a table and joke around about who’s really going to win,” she said.

Her favorite childhood memories would have to be the time that she went to Busch Gardens for the first time. “I love theme parks, and Busch Gardens has the best rides ever so I had an amazing time,” she said. Another favorite memory was when she slept over at her grandparents’ house and was watching WWE. “I remember being amazed because I didn’t know it wasn’t real,” she said.

Brianna was born in Miami, but her mom’s side of the family is from the Bahamas and her dad’s side of the family is American from Tennessee and Alabama. Besides her older sister Ashley, she has another sister named Cierra Rodgers who is 16 years old.
