Are you struggling in school, thinking there’s no solution? Why not try Saturday tutoring? Saturday tutoring is from 8:30 AM till 11:30 AM, and the school provides students free breakfast and pizza with soda at the end of tutoring

Assistant principal Ms. Leal said that students should attend Saturday tutoring because teachers are preparing them for AP, FSA, ACT, and EOC exams.

Students at Miami High attend Saturday school for many reasons. Sophomore Michael Otero said, “I go to because it helps me be prepared for class, and the teachers on Saturday explain the material better than in normal class.”

Junior Rosi Colmenares said, “On Saturdays, I can improve my learning in specific assessments with teachers. I have opportunities to receive help from my teachers as an individual student because during regular classes, teachers do not have enough time for specific assessments.”

“I go to tutoring because I realize that I can save time and recover assessments of the week, and I’m learning even faster,” said freshman Camila Hernandez.

Not everyone, however, likes coming to school on the weekend. Sophomore Joao Freitas said, “I don’t come to Saturday tutoring because I already come to school five days a week, and I don’t need extra credit in any class.”

Junior Alain Alejo said, “Coming to school on Saturday takes away my free time for activities, such as sports and hanging out with friends and my family.”

Attending Saturday school also only gives Stings one day to rest. “Some teachers will pile up work on the weekends, and it’s always good having two days to finish it,” said sophomore Christina Perez. “With school on Saturday, the student is being pressured to do it all in one day.”

Saturday tutoring helps increase student’s achievements in different ways. Approximately 15 students attend to AP Biology tutoring with Mr. Yoham every Saturday. “We do college biology labs which take several hours to complete,” he said. Doing the labs on Saturday frees up more time during the week to prepared for the rigorous AP Biology test.

In English teacher Mr. Euceda’s class every week about 12 students attend Saturday tutoring.

He said that Saturday tutoring can help students to learn reading and  writing even learn faster. It also gives students more personal contact with their teachers.

Biology teacher Mr. Perez added, “It provides extra teacher-student time that allows for a deeper understanding of the content.”
