Cute, cool, fun, pets? Let’s bring them!

In Miami High, there are many special activities that are organized throughout the year. Since there are many students that have pets, have you ever wondered why we don’t have a Pet Day or even if we should have one.

Junior Yanela Pavon says, “We should because we get to learn more about each other’s pets. Having a pet is a responsibility so we get to learn each other’s responsibilities.”

Junior Kassandra Borrego said that everyone can gather together with their pets and have a fun day.

Most students say they would like to bring their dogs, but there are a few that would bring something different. Junior Rossel Meraz would like to bring his pet garter snake, and junior Lazaro Torres would like to bring a bunny.

Even though we may not have it, students still have an idea of which day it could be on. Freshman Sharon Castellanos said, “It should be on an early release day because it would be a short day so the pets wouldn’t make that much of a mess.”

Sophomore Luis Carillo says, “It should be on a Monday because everyone hates Mondays, so it could be something everyone’s looks forward too.”

Some students recognize that having a Pet Day might cause some problems. “Some people might be allergic,” said junior Marlon Penate. Junior Christian Santos added, “A disadvantage is you have to take them out to pee and poop.”

On the positive side, however, Christian Santos added, “If the dog is cute, many pretty girls are going to want to touch it.”

All this talking about Pet Day, but who decides whether we should have it. Activities director Ms. Rivero says, “The principal usually has to make the decision on whether we should have it, but the school district too.”

Miami High’s principal Mr. Valdes doesn’t sound very enthused by the idea. “I think it could get too messy if students bring their pets into the school,” he said.
