Pick me! Superlatives!

Keith Calero was voted class flirt.

The history of Senior Superlatives reaches far back into the roots of Miami High. It’s an important part of senior pride and something many high school students look forward to.

Males and females can be nominated in one of 22 categories which are picked by student government and approved by activities director Ms. Rivero.  The Class of 2018 voted for this year’s superlatives, who were nominated by their own peers to run for the desired superlative one week before Senior Breakfast.

To run for superlative position one must comply with the requirements needed to attend Senior Breakfast. Seniors had to show that they had a 2.0 GPA, no more than 20 tardies and no more than 10 absences. They must have completed at least one hour of community service and sold cakes/candy in the class fundraiser.

189 seniors attended this year’s breakfast at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant on January 29th.

Helen Acevedo, who won Most Likely to be Famous, felt she represented her category, due to the fact she is dedicated to creating YouTube videos bi-weekly and is constantly active on social media to “gain clout.”

Tre Thompson, who won the same category for the boys, said he fit the superlative because, “I’m one of the few aspiring music artists at Miami High and I have that winning personality that most famous people have.” Ca$h Tre said Cutest Smile is another superlative he felt he could’ve won.

Class officer for 3 years and Miami High fanatic, Britney Alpizar won Most Spirited. She said, “I represent Miami High everywhere I go. Miami High is my home.” She added that this superlative is one she was really looking forward to running for since freshman year.

Janiffer Rodriguez, superlative winner for “Most Athletic”, played for Miami High’s basketball team all through out her 4 years of high school.

Tommy Collins, winner of Best Dressed, stated, “The win came to me as a surprise. I wasn’t even aware of being nominated until the day we voted.” Ironically, Tommy said he doesn’t spend much time picking out his clothes; instead he “wears whatever is comfortable in the morning.”

Like Tommy, others were taken aback by their win. Fernando Alvarez, who won Loudest, said, “This category isn’t one that suits me. On the contrary, I am pretty quiet. I fit more with Worst Case of Senioritis.”

Some underclassmen have ideas for new superlatives that could be added in the upcoming years. Traiana Dearamas, a sophomore, said, “I hope to see a Most Gossipy or Most Organized superlative by the time I become a senior.”

Gabriel Chavarria, a junior, said, “Most Likely to Cheer You Up would be a superlative I’d want to run for; hopefully they add it next year.”

  • What Superlative would you want to see added by next year?
  • What Superlative would you want to be considered for?
  • Should the whole school vote?
