Many question if schools should allow their students to order goods, however a lot of students say that they should. Students always say they rather something they can order that is actually in their appetite, as long as they have the money to spend. Some students don’t even eat school lunch because of how bad it can be and can’t pay attention to their classes because of the hunger and growling of their stomachs. Most students say that schools should let them order food as long as there’s a safe way .
A majority of Miami high students say that the school food is dry, with no seasoning, cold, lack of choice, and sometimes raw. A Miami High student ,11th grade Lucas Carrion says, “sometimes I do like the school food but sometimes the quality of it can be bad, the spaghetti just looks like mush, and the food cold.” Another Miami high student, 11th grade Boris Borge says, “I hate the school lunch. It’s horrible, the lines are long, and just not the best food.” Students are starving because they don’t like the school lunch, and the school doesn’t let the students order food that they choose.
We should have to let students order food if they improved the quality of the food they serve. Students wouldn’t have to starve and go out of their way to order food if the schools would give the food, they served a little bit more love and seasoning. A student of Miami High, Manuel Garcia, grade 11 says, “The schools can improve their lunch by making fresh food that’s not stale and giving us more variety to choose from.” Students would actually have a good meal if they’ve that the food is actually appetizing, not dry, and good taste. Another student of Miami High, Adam, grade 11 says, “The flavor is not there and sometimes it’s dry. They can improve it by adding some actual quality good to be satisfied with.”
Now what students really want is their own choice of food, to be able to order something off of an app and get it delivered for them to eat. Most students say that it would be 10x better to order food, Leslie Perez, in 10th grade said, “students don’t want the school food, if they can deliver their own food they can eat and have more energy to participate in class and be more productive in class. Kids would rather eat something else than the ordinary nasty school food. Jose Erazo, 11th grade says “I think they should allow us because I don’t like the school lunch and honestly I don’t enjoy it, it’s always bad, why can’t I spend my own money that I work for too get something to eat and go hungry for most my day.”
Students say that if they don’t let them order food, they should add things in school as alternatives. Miami high has one vending machine to get snacks from from it has bad choices. Lucas Hernandez, 11th grade said “they should definitely add more vending machines, we have done but the choices are bad, so they can add more with a wider selection, Miami high student, Livan Lopez 11th grade said, “I think they should put food trucks so we don’t have to order food and it’s giving us way more variety than the school does.” Schools should listen to the students’ options and what they need for a good day in school and pay attention.
Teachers say that they also don’t like how the school food is sometimes, Miami High teacher, Mr, Strickland says, “To be honest they can give us some salt packets and hot sauce because we need some type of seasoning to put some flavor in there to help because it is kind of bland, we people who do like flavor in our school.” He also said there should be alternatives to the school lunch such as “a fruit or salad bar for more variety for people who really don’t like the school food and also they should give students more lines to get food from because it makes them late to class sometimes”. Another teacher, Mr. Urrusuno says ordering food isn’t a problem for him like it is for us students he doesn’t need to go by those rules, he added “as a teacher I have the ability to sign myself out and go get food during lunch and sign back In once I have my lunch but it takes most of my 30 minutes that i have to eat”. He thinks students shouldn’t be allowed to order food to school because “it’s unsafe imagine 100 students, 200 students, waiting for their food outside of school, I don’t think it would be the best option for the students and everybody’s concern.”
