Miami High’s chorus program is making waves across Florida! Ten outstanding Stingarees represented our school at the Florida Vocal Association’s (FVA) Round 1 All-State Chorus Auditions, and all have advanced to Round 2 this October.
Special congratulations to Joseph Busto, who not only passed Round 1 but also earned direct placement into the prestigious All-State Reading Choir—becoming only the third Miami High student ever to achieve this honor!
Students moving on to Round 2 include:
SATB Concert Choir: John Chouza, Salma Oviedo, Tristan Pomareda, Isaac Gonzalez
SSAA Women’s Choir: Yolanda Depinedo, Casey Lopez, Milliani Vento, Ariana Perez
TTBB Men’s Choir: Edwin Ambrosio
In even more exciting news, Miami High is proud to announce two students—Salma Oviedo (Alto 1) and Joseph Busto (Bass 1)—have officially been selected for the Florida All-State Reading Choir. These exceptional singers scored among the highest in the state on their sight-reading auditions (37/40 and 38/40 measures, respectively). They will represent our school at the Florida Music Educators Conference in Tampa this January!
Additionally, three talented singers—Joseph Busto (12th, Bass 1), Isaac Gonzalez (12th, Bass 1), and Tristan Pomareda (10th, Tenor 1)—were chosen out of over 500 statewide entries to perform in the Florida American Choral Directors Association (FLACDA) 10–12 Honor Choir in Orlando this October.
These accomplishments mark some of the highest recognitions a Florida high school musician can earn. Congratulations to these incredible students.
