Dr. Yoham, teaches AP Biology, Biology Honors, and Earth and Space Science. He’s also the advisor for SNHS (Science National Honor Society).
Dr. Yoham’s accomplishments
Dr. Yoham claims the titles of president of the Florida Association of Science Teachers and Executive Director of the Dade County Science Teachers Association. He also mentors AP Biology teachers throughout the district, giving guidance and support to strengthen science education throughout all levels.
He also won some awards at Miami High and those are the following awards teacher of the Year by faculty and was also selected Teacher of the Year by FEA ,the club. Although he has accomplished many things, there is still one specific goal and that is to retire soon.
In SNHS he aims to promote a love for science among students at Miami High and wants the officers to work to engage their peers and make science accessible, exciting, and approachable for all. He said, “We would like to host a school-wide Science Day, giving all students the opportunity to experience science as a fun, hands-on interaction rather than something confined to the classroom.”
Life after high school
Dr. Yoham attended Miami Coral Park Senior High School for all his fours years of high school. After high school Dr. Yoham attended Florida International University where he received his biology and science education degrees. He also went to Nova Southeastern University to receive his Ph. D. He wanted to be a teacher to promote science and be helpful with students.
Sometimes people need advice with after high-school situations to know what do to after graduation. Dr. Yoham, suggests, “Stay focused on your career and make short term and long-term goals to keep you on track. Now, with decades of experience behind him, Dr. Yoham proudly marks his 30th year of teaching, showing the dedication and passion he has carried throughout his career.

As a child, Dr. Yoham dreamed of becoming a pilot or even an astronaut, fascinated by the idea of flight and space. Growing up, he listened to classic rock, which shaped much of the soundtrack of his youth. His very first job was working for a tour operator, where he was responsible for handling accounts receivables and payables, giving him early experience with responsibility and organization.
When reflecting on his school years, he explained that life in elementary and junior high was centered around his Catholic K–8 school, St. Brendan’s, where he spent many formative years.
Experience of being a teacher
Dr. Yoham likes seeing success from his students. He says, “Seeing students succeed is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. I truly enjoy when former students return to share how much they appreciated having me as a teacher and how the lessons they learned in my class have supported them in their college careers.”
The fun part of being a teacher, according to Dr. Yoham, is joking with his students and making them smile while they learn. Dr. Yoham says, “The science class students usually struggle with the most is AP Biology and the topics of gene expression and cell communication.”
When you first think about it, Dr.Yoham is a biology teacher who must love bio but he prefers teaching chemistry and earth and space science which he enjoys more.

- Dr. Yoham has taught at Miami Senior High since 1996, and that’s the only school he’s ever taught at.
- He earned his B.S. in Biological Science and M.S. in Science Education from Florida International University and later completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University.
- As a child, Dr. Yoham dreamed of flying and even building an airplane, though he ended up becoming a teacher instead.
- Before he became a full-time teacher, Dr. Yoham worked in tourism, traveling across Latin America and Europe.
