School’s Out, Scream & Shout
School is almost out! It’s time to prepare the coolers for the beach, the swim suits for the pool, and the barbecues for the park!
Many students will be saying goodbye to Miami during summer break. Junior Karina Garcia said, “I’m going to visit Chicago for about a week or two, and most probably Honduras, both in planes. What we plan to do right now is for me to go to Chicago by myself, then after a few days, my sister will join me over there.”
Similarly, senior Anne Coronel will flying to Nicaragua for two weeks with her older brother.”
Others will be traveling within the USA. Freshman Briana Arriloga will be going to Washington with her family for a few days to see all the attractions like the Lincoln Memorial.
Junior Lizbeth Arencibia said she’s planning on traveling to different states with her best friend.
Sophomore Anielkas Figueroa will leave on July 20th to her dad’s in Texas. “When I come back from Texas, I get to meet my baby cousin who’s supposed to be born on July 23rd,” she said.
Other students will be working this summer. Junior Isabella Pujo will be working with an advertising company.
Senior Matthew Espinoza, who will be working at Burger King, said “I’ll be working there to help pay for my college tuition at Miami Dade.”
Junior Stefanie Mondragon, who has a job at Papa Johns, said, “I was able to get the job because one of my close friends works there and gave a good word for me.”
Junior Jean Manco, who will be working at a local park with the City of Miami, said, “I got the job because they came to the school and interviewed everyone that wanted to apply for it.”
Senior Jason Cubas will be working with his mom this summer filing papers in an office. “I won’t be getting that much money because I’m not an official employee, but it’s better than what I’m making now, which is nothing. I need money to start buying shoes that I like,” he said.
Sophomore Valentina Molina will be working, but not for pay. She’s going to spend her summer conditioning for swimming.
Some students expect this summer to be different from what they did last summer. Sophomore Christina Quezada said, “This summer I’m dying to sleep, go to the beach, and get a tan. I’m tired of just being home like the last few summers. I want this summer to be 100% different. I want to have fun and go out literally every day.”
Similarly, senior Genesis Ordonez Is going to have fun and live life this summer. “I mostly chilled last summer, but this summer I’m planning on going to clubs and the beach a lot with my crazy girls,” she said.
Junior Jennifer Tejada plans to take English and Psychology classes at Miami Dade to get ahead with her credits. “Last year, all I did was baby-sit my niece and come to school for Beta. This summer will be slightly different because I’ll be a senior, and need to make sure everything is ready for graduation.”
She won’t be the only one working hard in the class room. Junior Angel Sabillon will be going to summer school for Algebra 2. “I was lost in the class since the first 9 weeks, after a while I just gave up,” he said.
Junior Rafael Arteaga will be going to summer school for English 3. “I had way too many friends in [in the class this school year.] I would try to do my work, but then got distracted because they would always act like idiots.”
