SENIOR WEEK 2018
Although seniors are counting down the days till their graduation on June 4th, they have a few months left and a whole lot of celebrating to do. Since freshman year, a majority of the class of 2018 had been waiting for one of the most lit events of their high school experience, Senior Week!
Senior Week began on January 29th and consisted of 5 events, one for each day. The week kicked off with the Senior Breakfast, where 186 seniors had a fancy morning feast at the 94th Aero Squadron. “It was so much fun,” said the senior class president Ingrid Hueck. “I loved seeing everyone all dressed up and having the superlatives announced. It went so much better than I expected.”
On January 30th 60 seniors sat back and relaxed with hot chocolate and popcorn as they watched The Conjuring in the theater. Senior Cesar Flores said, “I went to every single event and enjoyed them all! But, my favorite had to be the Movie Night. We all came together and joked around with popcorn and a movie.”
Senior Class VP Britney Alpizar said, “I loved movie night because a lot of the club advisors were there trying to scare everyone during the movie; it added to the experience.”
The fun didn’t stop there. On January 31st, 30 seniors sang their hearts out at Karaoke Night in the theatre after school. “Karaoke ight was so much fun,” said senior Kelvin Rivera. “Nobody cared whether our voices sounded good; we all had fun together singing along to our favorite songs. My favorite part was when we all sang High School Musical and became an actual high school musical.”
The next day, February 1st, was time for a whole lot of fun in the sun, when a total of 240 seniors took a trip to Tropical Park for the Senior Picnic. Senior Kedrick Chirino said, “The picnic was so much fun. We all got to come together, play games, dance, and eat great food.”
Senior Manuel Castillo said, “The picnic was my favorite event of the entire week. I loved being with my friends and enjoyed the day at the park.”
The week ended with Glowfest on Friday, February 2nd, in the cafeteria where 192 seniors danced and sang along under black lights with all kinds of glow-in-the-dark accessories. Senior Tommy Collins said, “Glowfest was crazy! I had so much fun.”
Senior Pedro Ramos said, “Glowfest was incredible; I can’t explain how much fun I had, especially after 3 years of waiting for it to happen.
The Senior Class officers and advisor Ms. Rivero had been planning these events for the past few months and were very happy that the week went so well. In total, the Senior Breakfast cost $30, the Senior Picnic $15, and Glowfest $1. The Movie and Karaoke Nights were free and open to any senior that wanted to attend.
The requirements to attend the senior events were to: have less than 10 absences and 20 tardies, have fundraised through cake or candy sales, have completed a minimum of 1 community service hour, and have attended the Senior Parent Night.
