Should we Dump Trump?
February 23, 2017
It was election night, November 8, 2016, and my family and I were sitting in the living room as the results were coming in. Many thoughts came rushing through my head; “Will Donald Trump ruin our economy?” “What will our country be for the next 4 years, with Donald Trump as president of the United States of America?” I wasn’t sure what to do at that moment but bite my nails, from how anxious I was.
“Not my president!” “Not my president!”
Our country has mixed feelings about Donald Trump’s victory. There are people who are very frightened and angry that Donald Trump was elected to be the president of the United States. Others believe he will make a change and make America “grow”.
After Donald Trump’s victory, many people started to protest. I was upset he had won and decided to attend the anti-Trump protest on November 11, 2016, at Bayfront Park. As a young person representing the future of the United States, I want to live in a country where we can all coexist and not be segregated because of our color, sexual orientation, beliefs, or gender preference.
The nonviolent protest was organized to express our feelings towards Donald Trump. Many held signs saying “Love Trumps Hate”, “Black Lives Matter”, and “LGBTQ Lives Matter”. Over 300 people attended the protest and many were students in high school or college.
Make America Great? Again?
I believe Donald Trump will not help “Make America Great Again”. He does not support Planned Parenthood, does not support gay marriage, and believes all immigrants are delinquents. Donald Trump wants people to believe that human rights are not important.
Donald Trump is a threat to our country because I wouldn’t feel safe with a president that speaks vulgarly about women or discriminates people. I want a president that will help us have a better future without any hate.
Donald Trump may be a man with a lot of wealth, making him one of the richest men in the United States, but he will severely damage economic and diplomatic relations with other countries. Building a wall will cost a lot of money and it will have to come from the United States citizens’ taxes which will eventually make taxes go up.
We all should be united and help each other without caring about someone’s sexual orientation, skin color, gender identity, social status, or academic abilities. If we all coexist and help the community, we can be the change of the future and help create peace among all of us and our communities.
