La clase de ESOL enseña a los estudiantes el idioma inglés. Esta clase esta conformada de menor a mayor nivel. La mayoria de estudiantes que la reciben  son estudiantes que no saben nada de este idioma. Esta clase tiene muchas actividades de aprendisaje, entre ellas las comunes son pronunciacion, escritura y lectura. De esta forma, los estudiantes pueden desarrollar mejor su idioma.

Como sabes que estas aprendiendo en esta clase?

Freshman Herminio Juarez dice que el sabe que esta aprendiendo debido a que antes el no entendia nada de lo que le decían y ahora  entiende mejor cuando habla con otras personas. Freshman Ana Lopez dice que esta aprendiendo debido a que su papa siempre le hace preguntas en inglés y ella lo ha comenzado a entender y responder en este nuevo idioma.

Que tipo de actividades ayudan a aprender inglés? 

La profesora Maria Herrera, del departament de ESOL, dice que una de las mejores actividades  para que los niños se sientan comodos con el idioma es la de lectura, ya que hay muchos estudiantes que se avergüenzan de su acento y no participan en las actividades de clase.

Como puedes desarrollar tu lenguaje en esta clase? 

Profesor de ESOL Mr. Euceda dice que los estudiantes pueden desarrollar mejor su lenguaje viendo películas y escuchando música en inglés, de esta manera pueden ir desifrando las palabras.

Jefa del departamento de ESOL Ms Couzo dice que no solo depende del maestro o de la actividad, sino de la colaboracion del estudiante. Si el/la estudiante se esfuerza, puede llegar a desarrollar sus conocimientos y habilidad de manejar el idioma.

Para ti que es lo mas difícil de aprender inglés? 

El estudiante Andy Amador dice que lo mas dificil de a prender este idioma son las pronunciaciones. La mayoria de los estudiantes latinos tienen este mismo problema, dado a que su primer idioma es español y se les hace muy dificil adaptarse a este nuevo lenguaje.

Como te sientes al aprender otro idioma?

Sophmore Jonathan Guerrero dice que es un poco confuso tener los dos idiomas, porque mientras en la escuela hablas un idioma, en tu casa hablas otro. Tambien se les comienza a olvidar las palabras de su idioma principal y  a veces combina los dos idiomas en una sola oración.

Como te ayuda aprender ingles en Estados Unidos?

Senior Antony Martinez dice que es muy importante aprender este idioma, porque te abre muchas puertas. Por ejemplo, te facilita a tener una buena comunicacion con tus compañeros de trabajo. Tambien te ayuda a tener un buen trabajo y ser admitido en una buena universidad y en otras actividades en tu vida cotidiana.

ESOL class teaches students from non-English speaking countries the English language. This class has students in low and high levels. Most of the students who take this class are students who know nothing about English. This class has many learning activities such as pronunciation, writing and reading. In this way, students can better develop their language skills.

Many ESOL students believe they learn a lot in the class. Freshman Herminio Juarez says that he knows that he is learning because before he did not understand anything they said to him, and now he understands what other people say. Freshman Ana Lopez says that she is learning because her father always asks her questions in English, and she has begun to understand and respond to him.

ESOL teachers have their own ideas about which activities help their students the most. ESOL department chairperson Ms. Couzo adds that it not only depends on the teacher or the activity, but also on the student. If the student tries hard, his or her knowledge can be developed.

ESOL students have different opinions about the greatest challenges they faced in learning English. Sophomore Andy Amador says that the most difficult thing to learn  is the pronunciation. Most Latino students have this same problem since their first language is Spanish and it is very difficult for them to adapt to how English is spoken.

Sophomore Jonathan Guerrero says that it is a bit confusing to have both languages because while at school you speak one language, but at home you speak another. Also, they begin to forget the words of their main language and sometimes it happens that they combine the two languages in a single sentence.

In spite of the challenges, most ESOL students know that learning English will bring them great benefits.  Senior Antony Martinez says that it is very important to learn this language, because it opens many doors for you. For example, it makes it easier for you to have good communication with your co-workers. It also helps you to have a good job and be admitted to a good university.
