At Miami High, freshman Diana Montoya is a hard-working student and a basketball player.

Diana joined the basketball team because she likes the challenging stuff.  If Diana continues playing basketball, she would like to play for LSU (Louisiana State University). Diana once played volleyball but ended up not liking it as much as basketball.

Her favorite basketball memory is from the first time she got to play. “I was so nervous but overcame my fear which was an accomplishment,” she said. Her least favorite memory is when they would lose games.

“The hardest part of playing basketball is not knowing how good the team you’re playing against; you don’t know if they’re fast, if they’re good at shooting the ball. You don’t know anything,” said Diana. The easiest part would be dribbling the ball because it is the basic skill in basketball.

 Early Childhood

Diana was born on January 14, 2008. One of her birthday memories is when she had to open her quinceanera gifts. Diana got a necklace, flowers, money, and two bracelets: one of them was a Pandora Marvel and the other was just a plain one. When Diana was a child, she was afraid of roller coasters, now she loves them. Her happiest childhood memory is when she would go to Honduras and see her family.

Diana’s life has changed significantly over the years. When she was a little girl, Diana would get stuff without even asking her parents or even doing something to get it. Nowadays she is independent and must work to be able to get the stuff she wants.

 Life in School

Diana attended Shenandoah Elementary and Middle. On her first day of high school, she was lost and expected more mature people.

Diana has always loved math class. She says, “It could be challenging but so easy if you understand it.” Her goal in life is to become a lawyer, which always caught her attention. She is planning to go to a law school at the University of Washington.

 Her Honduras life

Honduras is the most important thing to Diana; it brings her happiness and has always been her second home. She goes every year to Honduras to spend time with her family. “It’s super-hot in Honduras and that’s the only thing I hate about Honduras,” said Diana.

Diana’s favorite memory is when she and her family got stuck in an island called “La Isla De Amor.” There was no internet there, so they just had fun.  “In Honduras the food is my favorite part; it’s so fresh and good,” said Diana, whose favorite Honduran food is baleadas and pollo con tajadas
