Boys’ basketball coach Mr. Humberto “Tico” Govea reports that the team’s overall record at the end of the season was 23-9. The season was cut short due to their big loss in the regional championship game against Columbus, who was their toughest opponent this season.
Their most competitive matchup this season was against Norland, where Miami High won 57 – 50. The team’s best win this whole season was 72-49 against Palmetto High in the district semifinal game.
According to Coach Govea, the difference between this year and last year is that last season they knew what it felt like to lose and this year they came back with more hunger.
Honorable mentions this season go out to Romari Robinson (Junior) averaging 16.6 points per game, Absalon Cortes (Junior) averaging 15.1 points per game, and Aaron Richard (Junior) averaging 10.7 points per game.
The team overcame adversity despite starting the season 0-3. They started off weak but ended off strong, which took them to the Regional Championship game @ FIU on Friday February 23.
