I will never know the person reading this. Specifically, you– the one reading this article, I can only assume you come to the palace we call our school. So, for you freshmen and veteran scholars that decided to join our school, I wanted to give you a break by giving you a bit of information for one of the names you might have heard of in this school.
Truthfully, the man is hard-headed and gentle at the same time. Vague and upfront. But he is a man of experience, and I hope you can appreciate that.
What do you do Victor Cuevas?
Mr. Victor Cuevas is the 12th grade counselor and chair for the student services department at our school. In simpler terms, he’s the head of our counseling center. For most students, he’s the guy who changes schedules.
Mr. Cuevas is known for his counselor status, but he’s also the sponsor of Key Club. For those who don’t know, Key Club is a major part of Miami Senior High. It’s one of the big four: Beta, Honoria, Interact, and Key, which is also the oldest club.
Victoria Colindres, the president of Key Club, says, “He’s a really big softy and he really cares about the kids.”
Jennifer Alonso, a member of Key Club, states, “Cuevas is a very powerful man that’s not only nice but a sweetheart. I think Cuevas is like an older brother.”
And it keeps going. Key Club member Dulce Zuniga adds, “Cuevas is one of the most genuine persons I know. Ever since I met him, he has always done his best for me. He has also motivated me to accomplish my goals. I’ll say Cuevas is God-sent because it’s not everyday you meet someone who cares so much about students. I love the man.”
He is equally well known for sponsoring the chess team/club, GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), and the bowling team.
He is known to oversee all the students from every grade level, making sure everything in the school is up to par. He also manages every schedule in the school from teachers’ schedules, to students’ schedules, everyone’s. That’s the full-time occupation of Mr. Cuevas.
The preparation of Victor Cuevas
Mr. Cuevas has master’s degrees in school counseling, in applied behavior analysis, and in mental heath counseling. I don’t think you understand how impressive that is. He’s exceptionally reliable. Whether you like it or not, the standards of our school are high after all.
This is what I consider a counselor: he’s a man you can talk to. You have to prove to him that you care, and that’s something I admire about him. He’s difficult, and that’s what makes him a great counselor. Very much “whatever you want.”
I think the most important part of an interview is what the interviewee wants to talk about, especially if the story is the person. But when it comes to the mind of a laid-back counselor, Mr. Cuevas hit me with, “Do whatever you want.” I kind of found that ironic; a counselor’s job is primarily the students, what they want, what they think. Little things like these must be noticed when dealing with a generally quiet man; every little snippet counts.
Personally knowing Mr. Cuevas
There isn’t much we know personally about Mr. Cuevas; there’s pretty much nothing actually.
