Ms. Cosculluela is one of the best English 4 teachers in the school, students always say that they learn well from Ms. Cosculluela, and that she is the sweetest teacher of them all. She loves to encourage students to work hard and to focus on their future, she teaches many life lessons.
Childhood
Born in Miami, Florida, Ms. Cosculluella’s parents are from Cuba and Puerto Rico. She was raised in Miami her whole childhood. She says she had a good childhood, and she spent most of it hanging out with her family. Her favorite memory as a child was her constantly traveling with her family to places like Paris. Her favorite subject was English because she always found it so easy, and she liked helping and teaching others as a student.
Life before teaching
Before she became a teacher, she worked at Barclays Bank in finance. The job she wanted to pursue before teaching was becoming a veterinarian. She decided to try teaching, so she worked at a middle school for 6th graders, then she came to Miami High for an interview and got a job to teach English. “I love the school. I love my coworkers, administration, the students, and most of all, I love the school spirit and tradition of Miami High. That is what has made me stay for 22 years,” she said.
Life as a teacher
The hardest part about teaching, she says, is when the seniors start getting senioritis and she tries to motivate them to continue with their studies and continue applying to colleges.
On the other hand, she says that her best parts about teaching is ” To see my students evolve and pursue their dreams.” and I love to see them graduate and see that the entire process was all worth it. She says, an important life lesson I teach my students is to pursue their dreams, and even if you fail once, keep on trying, we all learn from mistakes, every life experience teaches us something.”
Highschool Experience
Ms. Cosculluela went to Lourdes Academy, An all-girl private Catholic school. She says, “In high school I was in the spirit club and in yearbook. The school was strict, but the sisterhood amongst all my friends was strong, even though we were a small school.”
