Students come from different states or different schools to experience the Miami High life, and many of them have different opinions on how the school functions and how the staff act.
Students like different things about Miami High. Alejandra Rodriguez, a sophomore, said, “My favorite is the spirit, and how good the people are here.” Alison Castro, a junior, said, “I like the chill teachers and the teachers that help students bring their grades up.” Camila Cuba, a sophomore, said, “I think my favorite is the number of activities and opportunities you have.” Another student Gabriela Gonzales said, “There’s a lot more staff here in high school than in middle school because it’s a bigger school.”
Miami High has many fun activities every year for all students who like to participate. Jonathan Rivera, a sophomore, said, “What is fun for me is the Spirit Week, because we all get to dress up and see many different styles.” Alejandra Rodriguez said, “I absolutely love the pep rallies. I feel like they are very enjoyable because in that little amount of time there are so many fun things happening, like the band playing and the cheerleaders dancing.”
Although people have a lot of good things to say about Miami High, there are still some things they would like to change. Federico Rizo, a senior, said, “With every incoming class, I feel as if there’s less and less involvement all around with academics. I feel as if people aren’t taking advantage of the AP classes.” Sophomore Aileen Osorio said, “Something I would definitely change is the uniform policy.”
Not all schools have the same opportunities or activities as Miami High. Aileen Osorio said, “Being a student at Miami High is fun but only if you’re involved with any club or sport because it’s different. You’re actually part of the school.” Camila Cuba said, “In general the school is so big and there’s a lot of programs, especially programs that help because it would be easier to get into colleges and get your GPA higher.”
Many graduates from this school recommend the high school because of the great experience they’ve had, and many of them come back to teach here. Federico Rizo said, “The difference is that many staff here at Miami High are alumni, and it just feels like a big family that just keeps getting bigger and bigger.”
Gabriela Gonzales, a junior, said, “These 3 years that I’ve been at Miami High have been the best school years of my life because of the amount of people I’ve met.”
Jonathan Rivera said, “I would definitely recommend it because there’s always new people that come from different schools, or even states, that have been recommended because of how good the school is in many ways.”
