The school year is about to end, and freshmen are about to become sophomores. By now, most of the freshmen have realized that in high school, they have more responsibilities than in middle school and that most of the students here are mature.
Students had different experiences in middle school which make some of them miss their past school and the memories there. Freshman Isabella Camacho says that coming to Miami High was a drastic change for her since she came from a school “where everyone knew each other because of how small it was.” Freshman Michael Chacon says that he does miss his middle school since “the buildings were better and less confusing than the ones here.” Freshman Adam Barriento misses his middle school and says, “I made a ton of good memories and it made me feel comfortable because we all knew each other.”
On the other hand, many freshmen recognize how different high school is, which can be both a good and bad thing. Freshman Sebastian Aguiar doesn’t miss middle school since he “didn’t actually enjoy middle school like everybody else” and finds classes in high school “more interesting” than the ones in middle school. Isabella Camacho says that high school is “more serious than middle school.”
Freshman Vanessa Henriquez says that in high school “there are more buildings and more activities to choose from” Freshman Joel Murillo says that in high school teacher assign more work and the classes are difficult. Freshman Derek Luna says that he “barely did stuff” in middle school since they didn’t assign as much work as they do now.
Since freshmen are in a new school, they are meeting new teachers and being treated differently than what they are accustomed to. Freshman Kathleen Diaz says that her teachers in high school compared to the ones in middle school are “more chill.” Freshman Johnny Lopez says his teachers are nice, but he doesn’t like asking for their help stating that he’s an “independent student.” Freshman Isabella Camacho says, “I like my new teachers. Some are really nice and help me out a lot.” Freshmen Alex Cabale says, “I like some of my teachers, but they can still be strict.”
Making new friends in a new school might be difficult for some students, but for others they’re naturally interactive. Freshman Kathleen Diaz has made some new friends. She says, “I met 2 of them in my science class and another friend in my Intensive Math class.” Johnny Lopez says, “I made a new friend in my English class, and I also made another friend after my schedule change.”
Some of the freshmen are starting to feel at home here a Miami High. Derek Luna says that he feels like he’s part of Miami High since “there are a lot of Hispanic people.” Michael Chacon says that he also feels part of Miami High because “Most of my friends came here.” Vanessa Henriquez feels the same since “there are more opportunities based on the careers I want to take.” Isabella Camacho feels part of this school because she “gets to l learn something new every day.”
