Valentine’s Day has passed, but people love talking about love all year long. Love is a feeling of strong attraction and emotional attachment to someone or something. It can also be described as sets of behaviors and emotions such as passion and commitment.
Some people know what love is or feels like. Oiriam Fleites, a sophomore, said, “Love is a very powerful feeling you have towards anyone. For example, family members or friends.” Henry Contreras, a sophomore, said, “Love is something that makes you feel a way that you can’t even explain.”
On the other hand, Leah Tamarit, a freshman, said, “No, I don’t believe in love because I feel like that’s just a feeling that you get when your overly attached to somebody.”
Many people have different ways of expressing their love. Yusleybi Cabrera, a sophomore at Miami Palmetto Senior High School, said, “I love showing my love through my actions more than words, for example, physical touch like hugs and kisses.” Alexandro Ruiz, a sophomore, said, “I show love by caring about that person, thinking of them, and making sure they’re okay.”
Love can be very hurtful, especially when you have a heart break or are just having disagreements with your partner. Keitelle Quintana, a senior, said, “Love can definitely hurt especially when you lose someone by their death.”
Kayleen Sanchez, a junior, said, “When I lost my grandpa when I was 13 years old, I felt really hurt because I loved him. My heart just felt empty because of how much I used to talk to him when now I can’t anymore, but at least he’s in a better place.”
Leah Tamarit also said, “Love can hurt because you could believe that somebody loves you when in reality they’re just leading you on while there probably talking to somebody else at the same time.”
Students in Miami High or in any high school try to find love. That’s called high school sweethearts. Not all the high school relationships last because of miscommunication or disagreements. Alexandro Ruiz said, “I don’t remember how it started, but I do remember why it ended. It ended because she didn’t want to be with me. At first I didn’t really care, but then I realized that I had lost her so I started to feel hurt.”
Leah Tamarit said, “Our relationship ended because it got really complicated and we would argue and because he would always be hanging around with girls so I felt sad.”
