CRACKED!

CRACKED!

You’re running up the stairs trying to get to class before you’re marked late when, all of a sudden, CRACK! You turn around and see your phone on the floor. You wince. “Please, tell me my phone didn’t crack.” But it did.

Phones get cracked many different ways., “It fell on concrete when I got out of a car since I had it on my leg,” said junior Jennifer Tejada.

Junior Jose Lopez said, “It fell out of my pocket when I was playing ball.”

Raquel Canales, an 11th grader, said, “I was running through the school hall, and it slipped out of my pocket, hit the ground, and cracked because I had no cover or screen protector on it.”

Assistant Principal Mr. Zabala said, “I dropped my phone and it hit at exactly the right angle to crack the corner of the screen.”

Junior Maria Maldonado cracked her phone while getting out of a chair, “It fell out of my back pocket,” he said.

Anielka Figueroa, another junior, cracked hers while jumping on the bleachers in the school gym.

Junior Gina Caldas said, “I was going to take a picture and when I sat down to take it, the phone fell out of my pocket.”

Students can get those cracked phones fixed in a variety of places. Raquel Canales went to a local phone screen repair shop.  Jose Lopez ordered a new screen off Ebay, and then his cousin fixed it for him.

The cost for the repair can be high depending on which phone you have. Maria Maldonado’s dad paid about $150 to get her IPhone 5s fixed while Briana Arroliga paid $50 to repair the screen for the same phone. Senior Genesis Ordonez’s mom paid $109 for her IPhone 6s while Raquel Canales’s mother paid $175 to repair the damage to her IPhone 6.

Some students can go a long time without any phone cracks:  2 years for Gina Caldas and 4 years for Jose Lopez.

Others, however, are not so lucky. Maria Maldonado said hers cracked after a month. For Genesis Ordonez, it happened after she had her phone for only 4 days.

Many students now use some sort of phone protector to keep their screen from cracking. Carlos Castillo protects his phone with a Life Proof case.

“My cousin went on Ebay and bought me a tempered glass screen protector,” said Briana Arroliga, “which is really strong so it’ll really protect my phone and prevent it from cracking… again.”

Jennifer Tejada uses a super protective cover that is water proof. Genesis Ordonez bought tempered glass and an Otter Box cover which, she says, is the best cover to protect your phone.
