On Feb. 19, 2016 the United States Secretary of Education Dr. John B. King in partnership with Univision visited Miami High to hold a town hall meeting to talk to students about financial aid for college.

To King, public education is the backbone of a student’s future because public school teachers were such a big influence in his life “Schools saved my life. I grew up in Brooklyn and I lost both of my parents as a child,” said King. “I moved around between family members and schools but it was New York City public school teachers that helped me throughout my life. They are the ones that made schools engaging, interesting, challenging and compelling for me where I could be a kid because outside of schools, I couldn’t be a kid because of the things I was going through.”
