Industry Certification at Miami High

Want to take the next step into success? Why don’t you get certified in computer programs?

Many students at Miami High have been certified and find it beneficial. “Studying Adobe Illustrator will help me further my knowledge in my career path as a graphic designe,” said junior Dailenes Enriquez.

“It’s a basic need when going on an interview and a necessity in our changing world,” said senior Jamilee Yern who is certified in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

“When you’re certified, you’re an expert in a field and have the qualifications,” said business technology teacher Mr. Torossian. He said certifications are offered to help students prepare because not all students might be academically driven and that’s when industry certification comes in.

Miami High offers industry certifications in such fields as Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Photoshop. According to business technology teacher Ms. Branch, these certifications are free to all Miami High students.

Challenges are present when wanting to achieve a goal, but you can succeed if you put yourself to it. “I have a 50% passing rate for students who are testing to be certified,” said Mr. Torossian.

Sophomore Luis Carillo, who is certified in computer coding, said, “Having to use my new skills was the hardest, but at the end of the day, anyone can do it if they put their mind to it.”

That’s probably good news for beginning students. “I barely understand the basic functions of a computer now, I’m exposed to new information which makes it more difficult,” said junior Debby Sanchez who is preparing to get certified in Adobe Illustrator.
