It’s 6 in the morning. You start to contemplate whether or not you should get up from bed and go to school. “Can I just stay home today?” “Should I just drop out?” These are some of the things that go through students’ minds when they have to go to school. So what makes kids want to go to school?

Students in Miami High look forward to coming to school for various reasons. For junior Isaias Castellon, if it wasn’t for football, he wouldn’t be attending school.

Junior Victor Fernandez said, “I look forward to getting educated and learning something new every day.” Senior Jack Morales looks forward to having a good day, doing good in school, and spending quality time with his friends.

Most everyone has a favorite class. Junior Rossel Moraz likes his U.S. history class because his teacher makes learning fun.

Sophomore Jasmin Cantillano loves JROTC because she finds it really cool and gets to meet new people that have the same interest as her.

Senior Amaya Napoles’s monitor class is her favorite. “I’ve taken all of my required credits to graduate so it would be pointless to be sitting in a class.”

Having school activities really helps some students be more interested in school and helps improve their academics. For junior Rossel Moraz, volleyball is one activity he loves doing because of the drills they do in practice, the people on the team and his coach. He does good in school to stay in this activity.

For junior Gamalier Garcia, basketball is his all-time activity, his world. This activity is appealing to him because he feels as if he is a part of a family.

One thing everyone has in school are friends. We all want to see each other at school. Junior Erik Rivas said his friends do motivate him. “All of my friends do good in school so they always help me and tell me I can do better.”

On the other hand, junior Michelle Gutierrez says her friends don’t motivate or help her come to school, but she pushes herself to come and do better.

Some students have a teacher they just love. Sophomore Nathaliy Deleon’s favorite teacher is her biology teacher. “Ms. G makes it so much fun to come to school,” she said.

On the other hand, sophomore Rommel Recinos said, “They don’t make a difference because every teacher is mean to me.”
