Senior Expenses

When you begin high school, you’re waiting for the moment you finally become a senior. You can’t wait till the first day of school when you get to wear your senior crowns and let everyone know that you run the school. And on top of it being your last year of high school, you get the opportunity to attend the best events specifically for seniors only which, besides being fun, can be very expensive.

Some senior events such as Movie Night, and Karaoke Night were free. Some such as Senior Picnic ($15) and Glow fest ($1) were reasonable. Others, however, such as Senior Breakfast ($30), along with future events such as Prom ($60-$70) and Grad Bash ($140) might be out of reach for some seniors.

Because the senior breakfast was so costly, some seniors were hesitant on attending. Kelly Garcia didn’t go because she thought it wasn’t worth the money. “I could use the money for something more important than a breakfast I could get anywhere, and for less,” she said.

“I didn’t attend the senior breakfast because it costs $30 dollars only for a plate of food. There weren’t any other activities besides sitting down for 2 hours; it just wasn’t worthwhile,” said senior Chelsea Garcia.

Many seniors didn’t have a way of paying for all events so they only got to go one. For example, some students who didn’t attend the senior breakfast ended up attending the picnic because of the price difference. Senior Dayana Estrada said, “I chose to go the picnic because it was cheaper, and in general I felt that it would be way more fun to attend because of the activities.”

Other seniors, however, found a way to pay so they could attend all the events. “I decided to go to everything because it’s our last year! These are the moments that we will remember for a long time,” said senior Cesar Flores.

Senior Chelsea Palma attended everything because she wanted the full experience and felt that if she didn’t attend, she would miss out on having fun with her friends.

On the other hand, there were seniors who could afford to attend but just chose not to go. Senior Emilly Medina said, “I didn’t bother attending the events because I don’t really have friends in my class. Most of my really good friends graduated last year so it just would’ve been awkward for me.”

Senior Virginia Marrero didn’t attend movie night or karaoke night because she had to work and couldn’t get time off.

Out of all the events, many seniors had their favorites. “Glow Fest was the best because everything was glowing in the dark which made it so cool. I also had a really good time hanging with all my friends and the music was lit,” said senior Maveli Guerrero.

“I think the picnic was better because we got to participate in many games like tug-of-war, dodgeball and especially the water balloon fights. It was just a good time overall,” said senior Giselle Pollan.
