Astrological signs, also known as zodiac signs or horoscopes, are the new craze amongst the younger population where they find out the signs of their peers and determine if they have a connection. Although astrology has been trending on apps such as TikTok, a good portion of people have no idea what astrological signs are. 

 What are astrological signs? 

      According to the website Cafe Astrology, “Astrology is the study of the correlation between the astronomical positions of the planets and events on earth. Astrologers believe that the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets at the time of a person’s birth have a direct influence on that person’s character.” 

 The experiences of people with zodiac signs 

   Some people are attracted to some zodiac signs more than others. Mellany Gaitan, a 12th grader, expresses that as a Capricorn she prefers Pisces and Libras, the reasoning being that she likes their calm state of nature and prefers them with all their overall traits. 

   Cinthya Ramos, a 10th grader, is a Pisces yet does not like Capricorns and Cancers due to them having a very emotional nature and not being true to themselves which can be frustrating.  

     Leydis Mendez, an 11th grader, is a Sagittarius who loves Leos because they are confident in themselves. She has never had a bad experience with Leos, but with Tauruses, she cannot relate to them at all.  

 Most common astrological pairings 

    Many people use zodiac information to determine whether the personalities of their peers are based on their sign. Michael Porras, a 10th grade student, says that many of his peers have gone to guess his sign, Cancer, which has changed his mind in a positive way regarding zodiac signs. Michael now uses astrology to fact check himself and see if his personality is like what is described on websites.  

   Zander Truy, a 10th grader, is a Gemini and loves Geminis. He expresses that all his friends are Geminis, and he loves hanging out with him. He also states that June Geminis act the same while May Geminis act different.  

    According to the article “The Zodiac Signs You’re Most Compatible With, Based By Your Own Signs” posted on the website The Everygirl, the best friendship pairings are Aries + Libra, Aquarius + Capricorn, Virgo + Scorpio, and Taurus + Gemini. As to where the most challenging pairings are Cancer + Aquarius, Virgo + Sagittarius, Pisces + Aries, and Leo + Capricorn. 

 Do astrological signs really matter? 

    It is totally up to the individual to decide whether they believe in astrology. There is no harm in doing so, and it can be a lot of fun for people. Although scientifically there is no evidence that backs up zodiac signs to personalities, it is something that people can enjoy and make some connections with it.
