Apps in School
By Alejandra Guido
“Don’t forget to do your homework!” is a phrase we always hear. But nowadays it has become easier not to forget. With the world changing, even school is using technology to help make life easier for students.
Many teachers use school-related apps to help students with their classwork. Algebra 2 teacher Mr. Suarez said, “I use Edmodo to post the PowerPoints and homework packets so it is easier for students to see.”
English 3 teacher Mrs. C. Perez said’ “I use Remind and the school app to keep my students informed about important things that are going on.”
United States history teacher Mr. Rosales uses Kahoot when there’s a test that day, to help students refresh their memory before taking it.
Many students like using those apps. Junior Lissett Hernandez said, “I use apps like Edmodo and Remind because they help me see what’s due for class and also notes.”
Sophomore Elizabeth Astacio likes how the Remind app can remind students who are very forgetful that their homework is due or there’s a test next class.
Sophomore Kiara Rosario likes how she can reach the apps everywhere.
School-related apps also have their down side. Kiara Rosario said one disadvantages is that that teachers expect students to do more work using those apps.
Junior Diego Reyes said that even though the apps are helpful, they waste a lot of storage on your phone.
Junior Vivian Almador points how sometimes the apps don’t work.
Students have their own ideas about what apps should be used in school. Diego Reyes would like teacher to use an app called Vete where students can let their feelings out when a teacher ticks them off.
There are also apps that help students with homework they don’t understand. Junior Ellen Garcia would love for teachers to use Mathway, which lets you see how to solve a math problem that you might not understand.
