Beta’s Most Spirited

From being busy at school with clubs to playing water polo in the pool, senior Jorge Perez has a busy schedule. He also plans socials for BETA and leads NHS (National Honor Society) as president.

 BETA

Jorge joined BETA freshman year because he thought it was the best club for him. After two years in BETA, he became the club’s corresponding secretary where he had to inform fellow BETA’s about future events. This year, he became 2nd VP, where he is in charge of socials.

By his side, he has BETA advisor Dr. Hueck who Jorge considers his guardian angel and as a second father whom he always can count on for anything.

Jorge recommends that if you want to have an amazing high school experience, then to join BETA because BETA is all about family.

NHS

National Honor Society, which requires a 3.5 GPA to qualify for membership, is a club that provides college information to Miami High students, offers community service opportunities, and helps Miami High grow as a school.

Jorge Perez loves being president of NHS, which he joined because he thinks he is a scholar. He loves being NHS president because he felt a moral obligation to make it bigger.

“NHS has always had the biggest names from each club in it, and being in NHS made them excel scholastically,” Jorge said. “Joining NHS helped me join an elite group of student leaders that help run Miami High.”

School and sports

Taking mostly honors and AP classes and maintaining a 3.2 unweighted GPA, Jorge balances studying, school, and sports. He does water polo and swimming with his coach Mr. Timothy Tornillo. He likes swimming because it’s a great cardiovascular activity and water polo because it’s a game of athleticism and intelligence.

Graduating this year, Jorge is plans to attend Miami Dade College where he wants to study engineering.
