After School Life

Finally! The bell rings! Every student is free now. Students all around like After schoolants. Everyone is trying to get to their destination.

Many people do things they enjoy after school. Sophomore Yanelys Torres said, “When I get home, I do my homework, and I write poetry.” Junior Marco Lopez added, “I go home, write music or I hang out with my friends at the park.”

Senior Analucia Solorzano hangs out with her friend Miguel after she gets home. She said, “I can’t wait to hang out and talk about our lives. We also eat, but I need to get home before 9:00 because my mom is strict, but in a good way.” Freshman Yoares Delgado goes to the park afterschool and plays sports with his friends because it makes him more active.

Others, however, don’t get excited about their after school activities. Freshmen Daychel Martinez said, “I just go home to sleep.”

Senior Amanda Franco doesn’t enjoy the things she does because she gets bored. “I get home to do homework,” she stated.

Many students, on the other hand, stick around school when the dismissal bell rings at 2:20. Jalinne Rubio, a senior that plays soccer, said, “I get home around 5:30-6:00 due to the fact that I love the sport and I am very active.”

Chelsea Collado is a member of Key Club, which she described as “pretty fun and non-dramatic.”

Freshman Idalia Quinteros, who is on the basketball team, loves the sport and wants to get a scholarship because she believes she has the character and willingness to put in the work to make it.

Freshmen Alexander Rivero explained that he loves J.R.O.T.C. because he learns how to be disciplined and can be a good leader.

Some students leave school and go to work. Junior cheerleader Crystal Cubillos, who works as a cashier at Publix, earns her own money to buy what she likes.

Senior Marbelis Duran, who has O.J.T. and works from 12 to 5 at a restaurant, said, “I love to work because I feel more independent.”

Junior Dorian Ramirez, who works at a car dealer helping his friend, said, “He sells the cars and I get a portion of the money he makes.” He works because cars have always been his passion.

Freshmen Kevin Sanchez doesn’t work because he would rather focus on school and his education more. He said, “I want to make my parents proud.”

Some parents approve of what their kids do afterschool. Senior Astrid Matos, who doesn’t work, said, “I stay home all day, but my parents are OK with it because I listen to their commands and I don’t commit any crimes.”

Junior Bryan Molina said, “I do great in school, I do as my parents ask, and I stay out of trouble.”

A sophomore who wanted to remain anonymous said, “My parents are proud of me because I’m making money at this age, composing instrumentals for singers and rappers. When I turn 18, I will probably make them for famous people.”

On the other hand, some parents would like to see their kids to be more productive after school. “My parents want something better for me,” said senior Alexa Panameno, who gets home and just eats, sleeps and stays on her phone most of the time.

Andy Rodriguez, a sophomore that just eats and sleeps, stated, “My parents say I’m lazy and to stay in school because if I don’t get a good job, then I would be too lazy to get a job where you need to work 8-10 hours a day in the sun.”

Another sophomore who wanted to remain anonymous said, “My parents know I do things I’m not supposed to, and they have tried everything to help me out, but the streets are calling me.”
