Focus, Edit and Print!
If you look around, you will notice that most teenagers are constantly taking pictures. If you like to express yourself through photography and be creative, you should select photography class. Miami Senior High’s basic course in photography design is taught by graphic design teacher Ms. Diaz.
Ms. Diaz has worked as a graphic designer for over 20 years, and now she is sharing her experiences with students. “I suggest to my students to try different skills and not to be afraid of experimenting with design and photography,” she said.
Currently, 31 students are taking level 1 photography, in the 8th period. They said that this class is very interesting and that they really enjoy the class. For many of them, the best part is when they go out, take pictures, and edit them.
“I thought it was going to be a very exciting class and it turns out I was right,’’ said sophomore Laura Vega. Sophomore Isadias Sierra added that he chose this class because he was really interested in photography since he was in middle school.
Technology has changed photography. According to Ms. Diaz, the computer program Photoshop helps get better results in the editing of pictures.
According to the students, one of the most complicated parts of the course is when they took an exam in January to test their skills in handling a camera. This is a skill that needs to be practiced and which, according to them, is not very easy. However, if you pass this test you will have the possibility of working with a professional camera with which you can go out of the classroom taking pictures.
All the students agree that they are learning a lot. Senior Erika Constanza stated, “I didn’t know what Photoshop was, and now I am Photoshop Certified.” Sophomore Jose Scorcia said that the class is very easy and he is happy because he has learned to take pictures and work in Photoshop.
There are many students requesting this subject for next school year. They have many expectations from the photography class. One of the students, sophomore Blanca Prats, said very excited, “I am very pleased and happy to have the photography class approved for next year. I have always wanted to become a professional photographer. I expect this class will help me to develop my skills.”
