Math + Judo = Mr. B!

During the school day, he loves teaching about linear equations, graphs, and inequalities. Afterschool with his club members, he guides them to be role models and shapes them to be  better men.

5000 Role models

The club sponsor for 5000 Role Models for the past 7 years, Mr. Brborich (Mr. B.) started off by helping out former sponsors Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Ballard.

Mr. B. said he likes hanging out with his club members because some of them are very bright while some need a lot of guidance, but they are all awesome. What he loves the most about his club is being able to expose students to opportunities to go to college.

After high school, Mr. Brborich attended Miami Dade College then transferred to Florida International University where he graduated with a degree in Secondary Mathematics Education.

“I didn’t chose the teaching life,” he said. “The teaching life chose me.” His teaching career began when he tutored some college students and realized that he was good at teaching math.

Math

Mr. Brborich teaches Algebra 2 for 6 periods. He likes math because he said, “It’s either black or white. You know it or you don’t. It’s very manly, meaning that it’s very simple.

Over all, Mr. B. likes teaching at Miami High. He said that he loves working with children and that there isn’t any hard part about his job. “The job is easy,” he said, “but in order to make a living, you have to put in extra time like tutoring, Saturday school, and night school.”

Life outside of school

Mr. Brborich loves exercising, long walks on the beach, and being in the gym..Also, he loves studying martial arts and watching M.M.A.

For about 20 years, he has done submission wresting and judo. He became a judo instructor and was certified by U.S. Judo Inc., the governing body of judo in the United States, in 2003.

He opened a judo school called Tamiami Judo where he taught for 5 years, but he closed it down because, “ It was a hobby that became a responsibility and a side job.”

Brborich plans on moving to Nicaragua when he retires and opening a shack on the beach where he wants to do judo and surf all day.
