Wouldn’t it be cool if you were driving your first car to school and everyone by the parking lot saw you in it? Imagine yourself in your dream car such as a Lamborghini and everyone starts walking towards you and saying cool things about you and your car.

Many cars in the MHS parking lot are common cars that we normally see in the streets of Miami, but some of them are considered special by their owners. For instance, Diego Lemos, a senior who owns a 1988 Toyota Corolla GTS, said, “My car is special because it has pop up headlights and a red velvet interior.”

Additionally, Alex Quiroz, a senior who owns a Lexus i300, says, “My car is modified to make it very low to the ground, and it has large white wheels to make it look better than any normal car.”

Owning a car is cool, but it comes with disadvantages. Jose Diaz, a senior with a 2013 Scion FRS, says, “My car is amazing, but every month, I spend at least $110 on gas.” Senior Dany Franco, who also owns a Scion FRS, said, “Everyone wants to ride with me, and I find it annoying.”

Students usually want to buy their first car as soon as they can because they want to be able to go around faster than they would walking or taking the bus. Joshua Mena, a senior, likes how it feels to drive his Toyota Corolla S around because he can go anywhere. Senior Anthony Rattigan added, “It feels great, because it’s yours and you can do anything.”

Looking at these cars may lead you to think “How much did it cost?” Joshua Mena’s Toyota Corolla, according to him, is worth $10,000. Diego Lemos said that his 1988 Toyota is worth at least $1,500. Diego’s car is 28 years old and it still works fine even though it has more than 100,000 miles.
