The Lady Stings are fired up for another amazing season. “Losing the Regional Finals game to go to state last year made us even hungrier for that state title we’ll be fighting for this year,” said senior Destiny Weldon, who is the only returning starter from last year when the Ladies had a 26-4 record.

The Lady Stings are focused this year and have their eyes on the prize. “We might start off rough,” said head coach Mr. Boozer Baumgarten, “but when play-off time comes around, we’re going to be the team to beat.”

“I’m expecting for us to play as a whole,” said Destiny. “I believe my team is good enough to win districts, GMAC, and state.”

Although the Lady Stings lost 6 seniors, the incoming freshmen will surely have a great impact on the team. “It’s a start of a new journey, molding these young, talented newcomers into great ball players,” said assistant coach Nick Baumgarten.

Also, assistant coach Sam Baumgarten, Sr said, “The freshmen are young but full of potential.”

Being such a remarkable young and talented team, the Lady Stings have a target on their backs. “Ferguson’s going to be the team to beat,” said head coach Boozer Baumgarten. “It’ll be the first time in a while that we’ll be the Cinderella team, meaning we’re not the most favored team to win state. We’ll have to surprise a lot of people.”

Not only do the Lady Stings play basketball because they love it, but they also enjoy the company of the other players. “You get to form a sisterhood and an unbreakable bond with each other,” said junior point guard Andrea Gomez.

Sophomore guard Samylia Ward also enjoys coming on the weekend for open gym saying, “Coming in on Sundays and playing against our coaches is the best. We can finally put them in their place and use the moves that they taught us against them.”
