Class of 2017 Treasurer and Interact member Karina Garcia is a dedicated senior and proud Stinagree. She’s outgoing, kind, and responsible and always wants to give back to others.

 Class Treasurer

Money on her mind, Karina can waste no time.  “Being class treasurer is challenging, fun and time- consuming,” she said.

Her motivation to become class treasurer came from the previous senior class officers. “I got to meet the Class of 2016 officers, and since I was involved with the Junior Class, I wanted to become part of the class officer family,” she said. “I observed how as class leaders they’d do their best to make the best of their senior year for their class, which inspired me to be a leader myself.”

Karina describes her job as “not difficult, but sort of challenging,” she said.  Although she is a class treasurer, she also deals with the responsibilities of her fellow officers. “You share positions with other officers to get things done quicker,” she said.  Making sure that all events for seniors and fundraisers go smoothly and efficiently is probably the most difficult task she has as a class officer.

“For the next class treasurer, I have a little advice,” she said. “Never lose money, be dedicated, never forget to have fun, and make the most of your senior year.”

Although she loves being treasurer, if she had the chance to pick another position, she’d be president. “Our current president has a lot on his plate, and as his good friend, I’d like to alleviate him of so much responsibility,” she said. “Plus, who wouldn’t love being president?”

 Student Life

Karina has been in Interact service club for two years and has a current GPA of 3.2. “My favorite memory that I’ve had in high school has to be my freshman year when I joined the soccer team,” she said. “I made some really great friends that taught me huge lessons, and I’m thankful for that.”

Her favorite classes are monitor, early childhood, and English.  Her favorite teachers are activities director Ms. Rivero, Interact advisor and biology teacher Mr. Perez, and Early Childhood teacher Ms. Martinez. Karina would also like to thank all the advisors and teachers that have helped activities and Class of 2017.

On the other hand, the class she most struggles with is speech. “To get a final grade, you must do presentations back to back,” she said. “For example we have to research our topic thoroughly and make sure to make eye contact with the audience, not to mention using body gestures.”

If she could change anything from her past, it would be not being involved in school her sophomore year. “I really didn’t know how much I’d enjoy serving and helping what I now call home,” she said.

 Life Outside Miami High

In the future, Karina sees herself as a caregiver and owner of her own child-care facility. “To reach my goals I must study,” she said. “I applied to Santa Fe College in Gainesville because I wanted to study outside of Miami.”
