What is R-tech?

The Robotics and Technology club (R-Tech) was established at the end of December 2017, with math teacher Mr. Jara as the advisor. “The purpose of the club is to nurture the STEM environment in Miami High,” he said.

Why join R-Tech?

Members join the club for different reasons. “I wanted to try something new, and it mentally challenges me,” said senior Tommy Collins.

Freshman Brianna Soria joined because she wanted to become more involved in Miami High. Junior Cielo Giordani said, “Mr. Jara informed me he was the advisor of a new robotics club and asked me if I was interested to join because he knew I was interested in technology from previous conversations.”

Sophomore Adrian Fernandez joined because science department chairperson Dr. Hueck recruited him because he knew Adrian would be interested.

Students must have a 2.7 unweighted GPA or 3.0 weighted GPA. Meetings are held in room 1206 every Friday. The President is Thalia Hechevarria, 1st Vice-president Lazaro Diaz, 2nd Vice-president Cielo Giordani, and Corresponding Secretary Rachel Salmeron.

The future of R-Tech

Members enjoy different aspects of the club. “My favorite part of bring in R-Tech is being exposed to a different crowd and learning about a topic I never thought would interest me,” said junior Thalia Hechevarria.

Freshmen Jennifer Hernandez’s favorite part of the club is that most of her friends are involved and they get to socialize more about a topic they share in common.

Junior Erick Flores mostly likes how the club’s main concept is learning about technology and robotics.

Club members have high hopes for the club. “I envision the club becoming established like all other clubs at Miami High and to expand on the perspective of innovation,” said Mr. Jara. Sophomore Bryant Armas hopes the club expands into different areas of technology such as coding and sports.
