Yellow

By Rosé Jean-Baptiste, 11th Grade

i am in love with your mind, your way of expression, even when it’s hard for you to say things sometimes.

i am in love with your fear, the way you doubt yourself yet you come to me for consolation. you are humble.

i am in love with the way you move, how you avert your eyes yet catch my stare just at the right moments. you understand me.

i am in love with your silence when you don’t know what to say and you stare at me in expectation. i don’t feel alone.

i am in love with your patience and your hesitation, for you are careful with your words and the way you take my hand.

i am in love with your worries and your strengths, how you manage to still care in the midst of loneliness.

i am in love with you, but for your entity i have no reason to express. your eyes, your lips, your hands, they drive me insane, yet i am careless. the mere thought of your voice consoles me.

you are too grand to define with one character. it scares me how i can take you apart and build you up again. you have done the same. just as we have done so in the past, i take you apart now. i love you in little ways that make you who you are. you are my secret and my hope.

i want to kiss your lips so you don’t have to speak. i want to kiss your lips so i can be closer.

i want to kiss your lips so you can feel the rush of my words and failed explanations just fade away.

i want to kiss you so passionately, that every doubt that has ever crossed your mind might disappear like a memory one cannot seem to recall.

perhaps we may be silent,

perhaps we may be closer,

perhaps my words are not enough,

and perhaps we might forget.
