The long-awaited Hocus Pocus 2 came out in November of this year.  You know how awesome that is? I never thought there would be a other one. Seeing your favorite character from the movie again is so cool!  

 Background info 

   Hocus Pocus 2 is a beautiful sequel movie that is an American fantasy comedy film. According to the article “Hocus Pocus 2’ Review: Bette Midler and Sisters Conjure More of the Same in Decades-Later Disney+ Sequel”, it is a homage to the 1993 Hocus Pocus film.  

   The cast that was asked to return in the sequel was Betty Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Joues; the added cast in the new roles are Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Troy Hale, and Hannah Waddingham. Filming took place from October 2021 to January 20, in Rhode Island replacing Salem, Massachussetts. The sequel is directed by Anne Fletcher, written by Jen D’Angelo, and produced by Walt Disney. 

The plot 

   Since 1993, everything has changed: the clothes, technology, and places. In this new modern world these two young ladies have an argument with one of their close friends. This leads Becca and Izzy to the house of the Sanderson sisters that is now a shop. Becca and Izzy are friends with the owner Gilbert, and when Becca and Izzy get there, they see him telling the customers the story of the Sanderson sisters.  

    They wait for him to finish, and when he does, he goes to them and tells Becca happy birthday and gives her a black candle. Later that day the two girls go to the forest with the candle. What they do not know is that Gilbert made that candle to bring back the Sanderson sisters to Salem to meet them. 

 Why so special 

    In the beginning when they released Hocus Pocus 1, it did not do well at the box office. In an article titled “How Hocus Pocus 2 compares to the original” posted on the website for TIME magazine, it says, that the original film flopped. “With a budget of $28 million, Hocus Pocus Brought in about $45 million globally” with a lot of critics. But when the movie started streaming on the Disney Channel and Freeform (formerly ABC family) during Halloween it skyrocketed.  

   The article also mentions that in 2002, when the DVD came out, it made more than $1 million every October! Through the years, the original movie became a must-see for every Halloween season, a classic movie with hilarious scenes and entertaining adventures. 

Opinions 

    While watching Hocus Pocus 2 I felt so joyful to see the original actors/characters of the first movie. The excitement I had was to see how they took the new movie too, and how the new characters are portrayed. The best moment for me was when the two girls summoned Winifred, Mary, and Sarah–the Sanderson sisters–and started singing “The Witches Are Back”.
