Track and Field coach Ms. Anderson reports that the GMAC Championship took place on April 15, in Traz Powell Stadium. She says, “We have had a great track season so far, and we qualified in GMAC. We are looking forward to competing in districts on April 25, in Traz Powell.”

She also says, “We are excited for next year, especially with what our newest athletes are going to be bringing to the table and we’ll be waiting for more people to join.”

Ms. Anderson also shines the spotlight on a few runners that deserve to be noticed due to their hard work and determination throughout the season:

  • Sophomore Joshua Johnson, who ran the 100m and 200m, is one of the fastest boys that showed substantial growth from last year, and by junior year will be running 10s in the 100m dash.
  • Sophomores Daquan and Jaquan Edwards ran the 800m for their first year, and as twins, never gave up while being tired and pushing through the pain to get each other better during their event. Nevertheless, they had the mindset to beat each other if one trailed behind the other.
  • Freshmen Alicia and Andrea Nunez, who ran the 100m and 200m, are another set of twins who proved themselves as the fastest girls on the team that can even do field events like the long jump and javelin. They showed their passion for the sport.
  • Sophomore Danelly Rodriguez ran the 400m, this being her first year, and showed her leadership skills by assembling the team to push themselves and make a mindset of getting better every day, while being one of the fastest girls on the team.
