Known for his love of comics, Mr. Sanchez is not only a biology teacher, but considered a friend that teaches you more than just science.

Education

A MHS alumnus who played on the baseball team, Mr. Sanchez graduated from Miami High in 1991. His favorite subjects when he attended Miami High was biology and chemistry. His experience coming to Miami High was amazing. “I had lots of fun when I was in high school; I loved playing on the baseball team and being in BETA,” he said. Not only did he play baseball, but he was also in swimming and martial arts. He attended the University of Phoenix and earned a masters in engineering.

Life as a Teacher

Mr. Sanchez has been teaching for 6 years: 3 at Miami High, one at Booker T. Washington High School, and two at Shenandoah Middle School. To Mr. Sanchez, teaching underclassmen has been challenging. “There are way more important things than school right now to kids,” he said.

What motivated him to start teaching was his kids. “Being a teacher, it gives me time to be with my kids,” he said. It allows him to do activities and spend quality time with them.  Besides the family-friendly schedule, Mr. Sanchez also appreciates the people he gets to work with and, just like students, he has summers off. The only thing that isn’t so good about being a teacher is the stress. “Sometimes kids can be a handful,” he said. Also, the salary is measly for being a teacher.

Life as a Science Coach

Being a science coach, according to Mr. Sanchez, was very stressful because he had to deal with 5 different personalities. Some of the things Mr. Sanchez did as a science coach was: prepare lesson plans, oversee lessons, and also work with other kids to help them understand the lesson being taught. Being a science coach and now a teacher has shown Mr. Sanchez that they have their similarities and differences. “Being a teacher you are in a classroom with students rather than being in a room doing things by yourself or with other teachers,” he said.

Personal Life

Born on October 11th, 1973, in Miami, Mr. Sanchez has one other sibling, a brother who is a year younger than him. Mr. Sanchez has 5 kids; 2 girls and 3 boys, with the oldest being a girl that’s 12 years old. What’s important to Mr. Sanchez is learning something new every day. Outside of school he likes spending time with the kids and playing with them. Mr. Sanchez doesn’t plan on leaving the teaching life, he wants to retire as a teacher when the time comes. The only thing he wants to accomplish soon is lose weight and get back to his high school body.
