Tennis coach Mr. Nguyen described the 2024-2025 season as competitive but still average compared to the previous years. While this year’s team didn’t reach new heights, several players still stood out for their effort and skill, including senior Kyan Caceres, junior Lukas Herrera, freshman Daniel Cabanzon, and junior Esther Padilla.
Even though it was an average season for the team, they had some tough matches against schools like Columbus and Gables, describing their players as a lot more experienced. Coach Nguyen saw progress but also some setbacks this season. “The team improved gradually,” he said. “We don’t have enough girls with experience in tennis, so that’s where it got us.” He added that the rain was also an obstacle, limiting practice time for the team throughout the season.
Coach Nguyen praised his returning players for showing more strength and leadership this season. As for the new players, he states, “They had to learn quickly. Personality wise, they gelled in with the team very easily.” Indeed, his favorite part of coaching this year was the team’s personality as it brought him the most joy.
Looking ahead, Coach Nguyen says the goal remains the same: to compete for the district championship and have players advance to the state championship.
