Mr. BrBorich “Mr. B,” the head wrestling coach and math teacher, is proud to report that on February 5th and 6th, the boys wrestling team participated in the GMAC Tournament. This competition is one of the toughest all season. There were 32 teams that took part; out of 32 schools, Miami High ended up in 16th place.
As for individual accomplishments, they had two students make it to the podium: Miguel Arredondo, at 144 lbs, placed top 4 out of the 32 man bracket; Leonardo Mendoza, at 126 lbs, placed top 6 out of the 32 man bracket.
Lastly, 2 out of 4 boys went to Regionals and made it to the blood rounds, which is the last round to qualify for states. They are the Mendoza brothers: junior Leonardo Mendoza and freshman Fabian.
Additionally, on February 12th the girls team competed at the District Championships. Two of the girls, made it to the podium, resulting in a spot in the Regional Championship. They needed to place in the top 4 spots in order to qualify for the State Championships.
Those girls are: Rosemarie Fuentes, at 100 lbs, who placed 3rd; Genesis “GIGI” Galan, at 170 lbs, placed 4th (unfortunately she could not complete her last match due to an injury). On February 21st, they competed in the regionals at South Dade High School.
