Remember the first day of school when you walked through the historic front doors here at Miami High? You were a freshman or, how we call it, a Baby Sting, walking around the halls trying not to get lost.

Experience in High School So Far

Next thing you know, it hits you. You are now a junior in high school. Some important lessons I have learned this year is that you have to take things seriously and that everything you do matters. You can’t be slacking off in any of your classes. We’re constantly being reminded that we need to try our hardest when it comes to school, and as a junior this is emphasized greatly.

Freshman year was a blur; I barely even remember my schedule. I remember it being really exciting and lots of fun. I got to meet new people and got to see what high school was really all about.

Sophomore year was a bit more challenging than I expected. Alongside old friends, I learned more about this school and began to love it more and more every day. Junior year so far has been a pretty interesting year. I continued meeting new people, and I realize that high school is going to be over in no time.

Expectations for the Year

Coming into junior year, I felt a rush of excitement like no other. Finally, I am a part of the upperclassmen. I asked myself what this meant, and realized that I had to take the ACT, SAT, start my college applications, and await the ring ceremony and so much more.

At first I wasn’t ready to face this upcoming year, but now that I am finishing it up, I have learned that everything is thoroughly explained for you in the easiest way possible. Now that doesn’t mean that you can slack off and everything will come easily. You still have to work for it, and that is where the challenge comes.

The Importance of Junior Year

Junior year is a big one in high school, maybe the most important year. You have to make sure to take all your tests, but don’t worry the school does a great job in getting you ready with tutoring and registration. Junior year is when you should get everything together regarding graduation requirements. You have to be on top of your grades so that your GPA remains over the required 2.0. You have to make sure that you turn in your community hours, and make sure all your credits are in so you won’t have to worry about it senior year.

Opinion on the Ring Ceremony

One of the most anticipated events for any junior in high school is the ring ceremony, which celebrates your becoming an official upperclassman. This means girls getting ready, guys getting their haircuts making sure they all look dapper for that night.

Now, I didn’t get my junior ring because I personally don’t like rings and I would probably never wear one. Not getting a ring is totally okay though, because you are still an upperclassman and not getting a ring does not take that privilege away from you.

It’s just an experience that’s one of a kind and it’s a great memory that students like to be part of. I rejoice with my friends on their rings and all their accomplishments, and I’m truly happy for them.
