You might have seen her on the softball field proudly wearing #17, or walking down the halls representing BETA, or wearing her Early Childhood uniform. Noemi Martinez is a bright, dedicated, and outstanding student here at Miami Senior High.

Softball

Senior left outfielder Noemi Martinez is co-captain of the Miami High softball team. This school year, her coach, Mr. Waldo Rodriguez, made her co-captain because of her dedication to the team.

“I was the only senior on the team, and I usually don’t miss practice, so because of this, Waldo thought I’d be the right fit,” she said. Noemi joined the softball team her junior year, because it was the only sport that interested her.

Although Noemi loves playing softball, there have been times when she felt like giving up. “I get frustrated with the way that I’m performing, but I always manage to get through it with the help of the team,” she said.

Her best memory on the team was last school year when they were playing South Miami for the second time. “We wouldn’t let them get past first base, and I kept catching all the balls that were coming at me,” she said.

She enjoys playing softball because she likes interacting with other schools, overcoming challenges with the team while spending time with them, and meeting new people.

Early Childhood

Since her freshman year, Noemi has been in the Early Childhood Teaching Magnet Program. She’s currently a level IV student, and has stayed all four years because of the benefits the program provides. “I’m going to graduate with a certification to become a pre-school teacher, and also the 45 hours of needed experience,” she says.

Her favorite part of being in the program is going to Auburndale Elementary and Centro Mater, where she experiences things that people her age don’t commonly do. She’s learning many things about child care that she originally didn’t know—such as child development and what to expect while raising a child.

“These things will benefit me in the far future when I decide to have kids on my own,” she says.

One of the many challenges that Noemi has overcome while being in the program, is passing the certification tests at Miami-Dade College. “I had to wake up earlier than usual, I had to study a lot, and it was just stressful in general,” she said.

Beta

Like many students at Miami Senior High, Noemi Martinez also bleeds black and gold. She joined the Beta family her junior year, because she was convinced it was the club that fit her best. “I’d heard nothing but good things about BETA, and also, most of my friends were already members,” she said.

Her favorite club activities to attend are the socials because she gets to meet new people and spend time with her old friends as well. Her best memory took place during the “End of Summer Pool-Party” social, where she was able to spend that last weekend before school started, enjoying her friends’ company and catching up with them.

Personal Life

Noemi Martinez was born on August 28th, 1999, in Miami, and like most students at Miami High, Noemi has Hispanic roots. Her mom was born in Guatemala, and her dad was born in Nicaragua.

She attended Shenandoah Elementary and Shenandoah Middle School.

During her free time, Noemi enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching popular TV shows such as “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals”, and sleeping.

Student at Miami High

Aside from being involved in school activities, Noemi is also a high-achieving academic student. She has a 3.4 GPA, and says her favorite subject is math. “It’s a subject I’ve always understood and have been able to pass, no matter what,” she says.

Her worst subject, on the other hand, is science, because it’s the most challenging in her eyes. “I get very frustrated, which leads to me getting headaches. It’s definitely not my best subject,” she said.

This year, Noemi’s favorite class is Painting 1 with Ms. Lee, because it’s fun and very relaxing, compared to the rest of her classes.

Her favorite teacher at Miami High is math teacher Ms. Moore. “She was the first teacher I had in high school that took interest in me. She helped me get through my freshman year successfully, and really pushed me to succeed in general,” she said.

After high school, Noemi plans to attend Miami-Dade College and join their Paramedic/Firefighter Program.
