He’s a teacher who gives a hand, opens minds, and touches hearts with his kindness. Mr. Green is Miami High’s new Health Science 1 teacher training young minds for the medical field.

Now that he’s part of the Sting Family, Mr. Green is having a wonderful experience. “Teaching at Miami High is different from all the other schools where I have taught,” he said. “The students are more respectful, disciplined, engaging, and they show more of a willingness to learn.”

Being A Paramedic

Mr. Green was a licensed paramedic for the city of Pembroke Pines for over 20 years. He became an EMT in order to become better at his job in the fire department. “I enjoyed being a paramedic because it allowed me to save lives and help rescue a lot of people,” he said.

The most challenging thing he has faced while working as an emergency medical technician would be dealing with traumatic situations that often resulted in death. The most memorable and scariest cases that he encountered were responding to small plane crashes several times, going into buildings in complete darkness that were set on fire, diving into lakes, and rapelling from 8-10 story building to rescue trapped victims.

“I learned that by being a paramedic you must be caring, compassionate, patient, and understanding,” said Mr. Green.

Teaching Health Science 1

Mr. Green started working at MDCPS district headquarters as a Curriculum Support Specialist in the Career and Technical Educational Department in 2007 for a year. From there, he transferred to Miami Edison Senior High as a first responder instructor and a health science teacher. When the program was withdrawn from the school in 2010, he transferred to Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School as a virtual school teacher for 4 years.

Mr. Green then relocated again as a health science teacher to Brownsville Middle School for no more than a year; the following year he taught at COPE South (a school for teen parents or expecting teen parents) until he arrived here at Miami Senior High School this year as a health science 1 teacher.

“I felt that becoming a teacher and sharing my plethora of experience was a good way to give back to the younger generation,” he said.

Life Outside of School

Mr. Green is currently “happily married”, with children and grandchildren.

In his spare time, he enjoys relaxing on the beach or at a park while reading a book. His ideal vacation would be overseas traveling to places such as Spain, France, Italy and England.

He’s also a big sports fan and frequently attends Miami Heat basketball games, Orlando Magic basketball games, and Miami Dolphins football games.
