Seniors Olvin Villatoro and Guervens Jean Win Student-Athlete Scholarship Awards

Miami’s High’s Olvin Villatoro, team captain of the water polo and swimming teams, will study business at the University of Pennsylvania. He took home $2,000 as the recipient of the William R. Nash/Dade Schools Athletic Foundation award Monday, April 24, 2017.

On April 24th, the Dade Schools Athletic Foundation hosted its 26th annual luncheon, where they awarded $37,000 in scholarships to 39 high school students across the county.

Two of the 39 scholarship winners were Miami High students. Senior Olvin Villatoro, captain of the water polo and swimming teams, won the foundation’s biggest award due to his outstanding play in the pool and in the books. He took home $2,000 as the recipient of the William R. Nash/Dade Schools Athletic Foundation Scholar-Athlete award.

Senior Guervens Jean, a wrestling standout, was one of the recipients of the Inner City Wrestling Awards. He took home $500 due to his outstanding run at the state wrestling tournament.
