Walk around Miami High and you’ll see kids with headphones. Some students are listening to Lil Pump’s “Gucci Gang” while others are tuned in to Bad Bunny’s “Soy Peor” and some students are rocking to Maroon 5’s “What Lovers Do” or Adele’s hit “Hello”.

Students have different reasons why they listen to music. “It helps me relax when I’m sad or nervous. It also helps me release my problems,” said sophomore Jazmin Mojica.

“When I’m working out, hearing music really helps me get some energy to keep going,” said Job Carvalleira, a junior.

“When doing homework, I listen to music to make me focus and to be determined to finish it and get a good grade,” said Joceline Tumi, a junior.

Most students have their favorites when listening to their music. “Nicky Jam’s songs mostly refer to real life, which really relates to me,” said David Rodriguez, a junior.

“Meek Mill in his songs talks about reality and about his hard life, which really impacts me when listening to his music,” said senior Mauricio Lopez.

“Lil Pump’s music helps me realize all the stuff I’ve been missing out in life,” said Kevin Largespada, a junior.

Some students even say that music has changed their lives. “I used to be very timid, but listening to music made me more open minded,” said Roger Carcemo, a junior.

“Music is a big part of my life, and I wish to make a living through creating music,” stated Katherine Arroligo, a junior.

“When I’m about to do a presentation, music really helps calm my nerves making me more permissive,” said Alexandra duque, a sophomore.

Although music benefits many students, some say that music doesn’t impact them in any way. “I barely listen to music so it doesn’t change me in any ways,” said sophomore Oscar Salguero.

“Yes, I listen to music, but it has never changed my personality at all,” said Lizbeth Trujillo, a freshman.
