Who is Nicki Minaj?

According to the article titled “ “Nicki Minaj: American rap singer and songwriter” published by Encyclopedia Britannica Onika Tanya Maraj, known professionally as Nicki Minaj, is a Trinidadian-American rapper, singer, songwriter, model, and actress. Born in Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, and raised in Queens, New York City, she gained public recognition after releasing the mixtapes Playtime Is Over, Sucka Free, and Beam Me Up Scotty.

Nicki Minaj has many fans at Miami Senior High. “She’s the longest lasting female rapper,” said Cindy Calidonio, a junior. Sophomore Naomi Mendez added, “She’s not afraid to speak her mind, She’s always trending too.”

This female rapper has had many songs released over the years. “ ‘Pill n Potion’ is my favorite song from her because she opens up and raps about all the sad things she’s been through,” said senior Michael Jones. Freshman Andrew Lopez likes ‘Superbass’. “The rhythm is very catchy. In 2011 that was a major hit with 740 million views on YouTube and I can really say that 1,000 views are from me,’’ he said.

Nicki Minaj recently released a new album titled Queen. Senior Angel Lopez said, “Her new album is amazing because she snapped back at everyone who has tried her and it definitely  deserved number 1 on the charts.” Sophomore Melissa Suarez added, ‘’It was worth the hype because I really like all the songs in this album and it deserves all the popularity it got on social media”.

Junior Collen Bucknor disagreed. “No, the queen of rap is Left Eye because Nicki raps about her success and her appearance while Left Eye rapped about world problems and meaningful things.” Senior Adriana Gutiérrez stated “She’s the queen of rap because she has been the only female rapper that has been popular and making billboards hits since 2008”.

The rapper Nicki Minaj has being rapping and being under the spotlight for more than 10 years. Junior Alysha Mercado said, ‘’In elementary school when ‘Superbass’ came out, that song was super trendy. Everyone was listening to it.” Sophomore Chanel Carbonell added, “When I was in 4th grade, she went viral for releasing Pinkprint, and it snapped period.”
