Our VP of Class of 2021

By Priscila Rivas

Sophomore Venus Galban says, “I’ve always thought of myself as a leader or an example to everyone around me.”

Do you know who helps make all the activities for Class of 2021? You can catch sophomore Venus Galban almost everywhere around Miami High. She makes sure her Class of 2021 is right on track.

Being VP

Venus talks about why she ran to be VP. “I’ve always thought of myself as a leader or an example to everyone around me,” she said.

She explains that it’s not that easy being VP. First of all, there is the problem of getting elected. She says, “It was a real challenge competing with such talented people for the spot of VP, but I will totally love to run again next year regardless.”

Being VP also requires a lot of responsibility. She said, “And in order for me to manage my time wisely on a busy schedule, I make sure all my classwork is done first so I can focus on other things.”

Being VP can also be very fun. She says, “You get out of class to help out during events such as my favorite, which is Homecoming.”

The student

Venus chose to attend Miami High because she loves the variety of people and the school spirit that students show in the events we do. Her favorite subject is English 2 because her teacher Ms. Berrios motivates her to learn every day.

Her least favorite is Geometry because she struggles to keep up with the class. She also states, “It is not easy to wake up early every day to sit in a classroom for a long time, but I make all my classes fun.”

About our VP

Venus attended Coral Way K-8 for both elementary and middle school. “I believe my middle school teachers prepared me well for high school because they taught me to make wise decisions and not to procrastinate,” she said.

She was born here in Miami, but her parents are of Latino heritage. She has three siblings, her brother and two sisters that have already graduated from high school. Venus mentions that outside of school, she enjoys watching Netflix and spending time with her family members.

Future

Venus wants to graduate with a 3.5 GPA and later on attend FIU because she wants to stay in Miami. “I want to study something related to business because I want to build my own. I want to be able to work with wealthy people on special events and get paid to do so,” she said. In five years, she sees herself attending FIU, being employed and financially stable.
