At their district tournament on November 16th, hosted by the Urban Debate League at Coral City High School, the Miami High Debate Team made a memorable name for themselves by taking home 10 awards, placing in both varsity and novice categories against more than 20 schools in the district.

1st Place Novice: D’ Jhannay Jones (9th Grade)

3rd Place Novice: Michael Ojeda (12th Grade)

7th Place Novice: Edelmira Ramirez (11th grade)

9th Place Novice: Nicole Solano & Melanie Ramos (9th Grade)

Unfortunately, their December tournament was cancelled, but they are looking forward to their next event in January.  Michael Ojeda, co-captain of the Debate Team, said, “I feel really confident in our team and our results from our first tournament. I am ready to see new faces compete in our next event. We have a lot of new people but are always accepting new debaters.”
