Love Fills the Air

When you think of love what is the first thing that crosses your mind? Does love remind you of Valentine’s day? Do you picture a beloved pet, family members, your current boyfriend, or your ex-girlfriend?

Love Stories

We’ve all read about the classic love stories, but are they all like that? Junior Dailyn Rodriguez said, “I only knew I was in love because my friend made me realize it. I talked about him all the time, and I would always get shy around him. It lasted for a year before we started drifting apart and stopped loving each other. He was my first love.”

Sophomore Kyara Bermudez said, “I thought I was in love for a really long time because I would do whatever made him happy. It lasted for about 5 to 6 months. He actually broke up with me, and if I’m being honest, I was okay with it. After the breakup I realized that I did love him, but I wasn’t in love with him.”

What is love?

Love is an intense feeling of deep affection for someone or something. Yet, there are many different definitions of the word love. According to an anonymous male junior, “Love is a bridge, between two people, which gets stronger when both sides put in effort.”  Sophomore Nicole Marenco agrees. “Love is putting 100% into your relationship and taking care of the other person’s needs,” she said.

Nonetheless, Nikita Infante believes that no one can truly define what love is. Love is different for everybody. “Most people may think that they are in love, but it’s fake love,” she said.

To sophomore Steven Rivera, love is hurtful, and loving someone is painful because there’s always the paranoia of being rejected or hurt.

First Love

Many people remember their first love. Senior Nikita Infante said, “You’ll never forget your first love because it’s the person who taught you how to love, that showed you what love is, and how it feels to be loved by another person [romantically]. It’s very difficult to forget.”

Junior Chayanne Inove agrees. “My first love wasn’t bad, it was fun and brought me a lot of happiness,” he said. “It’s full of great memories. It was my first time, and I made a lot of mistakes. I wish I could’ve been better.”

Soulmates

Miami High students have a few things to say about soulmates and love at first sight. An anonymous male freshman thinks that love at first sight only exists in movies and books. “No one can look at someone for the first time in their life and say that they’re in love. You may feel attracted to their appearance, but love is a bond that takes time to build up,” he said.

However, to Kyara Bermudez, “Soulmates do exist. I’ve seen many couples stay together through their whole life,” she said. “To me, a soulmate is someone who loves you unconditionally and stays with you through your hardships.”

Celebrity Couples

Some people find love lives worth imitating from celebrities. Nicole Marenco said, “Adam Sandler and Jackie Sandler are the best celebrity couple. They are so perfect for each other and they aren’t problematic at all, like most couples are.”

Sophomore Shemarie Ferguson said the best couple is Will Smith and Jada Pinkett because they’ve been together for a long time, which is surprising.

Does it last?

Although it’s true that love is an amazing feeling, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Love doesn’t always last and when it does end, it isn’t very pretty. “I knew I was in love because of the trust I had in him, but it lasted for 5 months. We broke up because of personal problems on his part. I’m still in love with him,” said Nikita Infante.

Similarly, Steven Rivera said, “I wasn’t too sure at first, but then one day I just knew. It lasted about one year before she moved but I’m still in love.”
