As the 2024–2025 volleyball season comes to a close, the team reflects on a year full of growth, grit, and unforgettable moments. With a final record of 20 wins and 7 losses, the season was a strong one.
When asked about the most memorable moment of the season, nearly everyone pointed to the district finals championship against Christopher Columbus High School, which was ranked as the sixth best team in the country, and Miami High was able to beat them on their home court, 3-0.
Some of the standout players on this team were Carlos Miranda, Alexander Verite, Joseph Gonzalez and Evan Alarcón as they are the most veteran players on the team and they are the ones that control the mood and how the team is going to play every day.
Since the start of the season, the team made major improvements in communication and court awareness. They’ve also improved in the ability to stay composed in hard-fought games and being able to close out close games.
Team chemistry played a huge role in their success. The team would describe their chemistry on and off the court to be a sense of family between each of the members as they are all very approachable and talk to each other whenever possible.
Practices were focused and fast-paced. A typical practice for them was a very grueling and challenging process as their coach, Raphael Cabanzon prepared them for the games with very intense conditioning and very game-dedicated practice.
Compared to the previous school year, the team felt more pressure. This season was a much tougher battle compared to last season as they did endure a couple more losses, but in the end as a group, they grew through these challenges.
And of course, the team has very important shoutouts: One for their head coach Raphael who pushed them to the best of their ability, and another for the incredible parents that supported them and cheer on every game.
