Marcia Hernandez reflects on her life, her experiences growing up, and how she has learned to navigate challenges on her own. Through her story, she shares her thoughts about family, personal growth, fears, and motivations. Her reflections reveal how experiences like loss, independence, and meeting new people have shaped the person she is today and continue to guide her as she moves forward.
Memories of My Mom
Marcia, whose mother died during childbirth, doesn’t often talk about her mom with her current parents. But when the family does talk about her mom, the words are always kind. “They just say that she was a very kind person very, quiet, but sweet and nice and caring,” Marcia recalled. These are the traits she remembers, and they shape how she thinks about her mom even today.
When asked about traditions or things her mom loved, Marcia admitted she didn’t know much. Despite the lack of specifics, she still feels a connection to her mom through the traits she passed down.
Thinking about her mom brings mixed emotions. Marcia said, “I feel sad to some extent, but at the same time, I feel like everything happens for a reason. And I feel like, just be better, you know? Because if she died, she must have died for a reason, so let’s make it worth it.”
If she could ask her mom one question, it would be about the life she had lived. Marcia wants to know whether her mom had the life she wanted before passing away at a young age, leaving many questions unanswered.
Marcia believes her mom would be proud of who she is today. “I feel like I’m a very kind person. I’m a very sweet person. I care a lot about other people. And I feel like that’sprobably an aspect that is important. And yeah, I just think that she would be proud,” she said.
Growing Up and Learning Independence
One of the hardest parts of growing up, Marcia said, was learning to be independent. “A part of growing up that no one warned me about is being independent and figuring things out for yourself, leaving people behind, and growing up,” she said.
She also learned truths about life earlier than some of her peers, particularly because of her mother’s death. “When my mom died, I didn’t have a mom, so I was kind of just like, being around other adults and other people taking care of me,” she explained. These experiences pushed her to adapt quickly and learn to rely on herself.
Fears and Worries
Marcia admits she has fears most people wouldn’t guess. “Something I’m afraid to fail at is life. Because what if I don’t get rich? I can’t be broke,” she said. She also worries about not doing enough or not trying hard enough. “Worry or fear? I don’t know, like, not doing enough or not trying hard enough,” she added.
Surprising Myself and Learning About Me
Marcia has surprised herself by stepping out of her comfort zone and by being more outgoing. “I used to be very quiet. I used to not talk to people. And then I just woke up one day and I was like, yeah, let me just talk to anybody,” she said.
She is still learning about herself. “Something I’m still trying to figure out about myself is how to spend time with myself,” Marcia explained. Over the past few years, she has changed the way she thinks. “I think I’m a calmer person and I’m a more understanding person.”
A Moment That Changed Everything
High school was a turning point for Marcia. “I met people who pushed me to be better, and I met people who weren’t like the people I had previously been around. So that made me realize that, wow, these people are cooler, and it just made me want to be better for myself,” she said. That experience helped her see the possibilities for her own growth and encouraged her to continue improving.
Motivation
Marcia’s motivation comes from within. “What motivates or inspires me to keep going? I myself, because I could always be better, do better. I think there’s more to life, and I think I just gotta get there,” she said. Her drive is rooted in the desire to improve herself and reach her goals.
Education and Career
Currently, Marcia is job hunting and considering her future career. “Right now, I don’t have a job. My career goal is to be successful, major in something I actually enjoy, make money, and be happy,” she said. She wants a future that brings satisfaction and success while allowing her to enjoy the work she does.
